For Patients

• Register with MedCommons?

  • Click Register on the Sign In page or Create Account in Facebook.
  • Use your Amazon Payments account - the fee is $2/mo plus storage charges - you may cancel any time.
  • Verify your Email by clicking the link in the email sent by MedCommons.
  • Print your Registration Receipt and keep it safe. You now have and control a HealthURL for as long as you pay your subscription fee.
• Create my HealthURL?

  • Sign In.
  • Click Create. You will see the Current CCR.
  • Enter a name, date of birth and other patient information on the CCR.
  • On Windows only: Install HealthBook.
  • Click Edit with HealthBook on the Current CCR.
  • Create your PHR in HealthBook, it will be saved as the Current CCR in your HealthURL.
    
• Add paper documents to my HealthURL?

  • On the Dashboard, click the Forms link.
  • Click Preview and print the fax cover sheet.
    
  • Stack the documents behind the cover sheet and fax to the toll-free number listed on the cover sheet.
    
  • The issuer of the Voucher will be billed per page for fax conversion to PDF.
  • The PDF file, including the cover sheet, will be added to the HealthURL as a reference in the Current CCR.
  • For patient safety, a ! on the recently added PDF file is a reminder to verify that the file was added to the correct patient. Click to open the PDF and check that the patient's name matches the name on the HealthURL.
  • If the names match, click the ! symbol on the PDF thumbnail and it will change to a check. If the names do not match, delete the PDF file reference.
• Add medical images to my HealthURL?

  • Install DDL
  • Open the HealthURL
  • Click Add DICOM
  • Click Upload CD in DDL menu.
  • Accept default or navigate to the folder containing the image files.
  • Click Status in DDL.
  • Find the study you just loaded into DDL on the Upload list and click Match to Pending. Do not shut down DDL until upload is complete.
  • Refresh HealthURL to verify images are accessible. For DICOM networking, use the DDL About page to configure.
• Grant my doctor access to my HealthURL?

  • by Tracking Number / PIN: This is the easiest way for the doctor to open your HealthURL and be directed to a particular CCR. Here's what to do:
    • Click to the Edit CCR mode
    • Enter a PIN
    • Click Save.
    • Communicate the tracking number and pin to the doctor using the built-in email Notification by clicking Send or use a regular email, text message or call.
  • by doctor's Email Address, if you don't want to use the PIN
    • Enter the doctor's email address in the CCR Notification form.
    • Click Send.
      
    • Lacking a PIN, the doctor will need to open a MedCommons account ($2/mo via Amazon Payments) and verify their email address before access. If the doctor doesn't have a MedCommons account, she will be invited to open one.
  • by doctor's OpenID, if your doctor has an OpenID from an approved identity service MedCommons will accept it. This option avoids the doctor having to register and pay for an account. We support Verisign, it's free.
    • Click Dashboard and the Share with OpenID link.
    • Enter the OpenID on the form.
    • Copy a link to the HealthURL (on the Dashboard) or Tracking Number (on the Dashboard Activity Log) and send it to the doctor.
      
    • The doctor will log into their OpenID to access your HealthURL. They will not need to register or pay MedCommons.
